Gibraltar is set to welcome UK Reggae giant Steel Pulse this July, courtesy of Big Man Entertainment. The band is famed with being influential in promoting multi-culturalism in British society in the 1970’s. The duo’s early success caught the attention of legendary reggae label Island Records, who were responsible for giving them their first break supporting Bob Marley on his European Tour.
World renown composer and producer Nitin Sawhnet has be chosen as the main artist to perform at this year’s GWMF which is now into its third edition. Nitin will perform at St Michael’s Cave the 19th of June featuring guest performances from the extensive vocal talents of Nicki Wells and percussion skills of tabla maestro Aref Durvesh, an intimate show that the audience could see later in Womad and at the London’s Royal Albert Hall in September.

Gibraltar’s inaugural Fringe Festival proved a welcome addition to Gibraltar’s active Spring/ Summer events line up last year. This year’s event is set for May and promises to be equally enthralling with cabaret performances by Tricity Vogue dubbed ‘The Blue Lady Sings’. The character draws inspiration from Vladimir Tretchikoff’s painting, which was auctioned at Bonhams Auction House in London. The performance will be held on Thursday 15th May 2014. Fresh from his presence at the recent FT Weekend Oxford Literary Festival, the Minister for Tourism, Neil Costa, has declared that the second edition of the Gibunco Gibraltar Literary Festival is already taking shape and promises to be another memorable event in Gibraltar’s cultural calendar.
