Jan 22 - European Union Referendum Bill 2016 – Full Address by the Deputy Chief Minister

The following is the full text of an address delivered in Parliament this afternoon by the Deputy Chief Minister on the EU Referendum Bill.

Mr Speaker,

I beg to move that the Bill for a European Union Referendum Act 2016 be read a second time.

Mr Speaker a Bill of the same name was introduced in the House of Commons on 28 May 2015 in order to provide the basis for the referendum on whether the United Kingdom would remain in the European Union. That Bill was presented by the Conservative Government in fulfilment of its manifesto commitment at the last General Election.
