Mar 02 - Port Authority Removes Fishing Nets Off Europa Point

Yesterday afternoon, following reports of a fishing net drifting between 50 and 100m off Europa Point, the Port Launch, General Elliot II, was deployed to investigate. On arrival, it was seen that the net, believed to belong to a Spanish fishing boat, extended several hundred metres and posed a serious risk to navigation for passing vessels.In an operation that took over two hours, the Duty Port Officer, Matthew Ferrary, assisted by Coxswain Leslie Ward at the scene, coordinated the recovery and safe removal of the nets, supported by an RGP launch and the Molinary tug, Ana.

Mar 02 - Government’s Aim Is The Restoration of Gibraltar’s Marine Environment

The Government has said that the Opposition, in concentrating on trying to score political points, has once again “exposed its lack of understanding of the environment.” At least, in its latest statement, says Number Six, the GSD “have the decency not to deny that the problem was one of their making by having agreed to the 1999 fishing agreement in the first place.”

Mar 02 – Improvements To Speed Up Last Prescription Appointments

As part of the on-going improvements to the Advance Appointments system at the Primary Care Centre, a ‘Post Box’ has been introduced to reduce the need to queue up or telephone, in order to obtain a ‘Last Prescription Appointment’ (LPA). These appointments are only suitable if you have or will be surrendering your ‘Last Prescription’ imminently and therefore will need to see the prescriber to assess your on-going medication requirements.
