Gibraltar Hotels – Something For Everyone

The Rock Hotel GibraltarSituated at the southernmost tip of Spain and under a three hour flight away, Gibraltar is a popular holiday destination for visitors from the UK. Gibraltar hotels offer a choice of 3 and 4 star accommodation and are the perfect base from which to explore Gibraltar, Southern Spain and even Morocco. Where else can you see three countries in one day?

Four of the best Gibraltar Hotels

Built by the Marquis of Bute, the magnificent 4 star hotel “The Rock Hotel” is decorated in a colonial style and transports its visitors back to a bygone elegant and genteel era. As one of Gibraltar's oldest established hotels, it sits in a prominent and proud position at the top of a steep hill and guarantees all of its guests breath-taking views of the Bay of Gibraltar, the Rif Mountains in Morocco, and the Spanish mainland, from all of its sea facing rooms. Tired visitors who have spent the day sightseeing can take advantage of the free bus, which will take them up to the hotel, plus taxis are readily available. Don't be surprised if you find a Barbary ape sunning himself on your balcony; these friendly creatures like to extend a warm welcome to visitors to their land.

At the Rock Hotel visitors can indulge themselves in a civilised manner with a mouth-watering afternoon tea on the Wisteria Terrace, or partake of a cocktail or two and some light snacks. Free wireless Internet is also available in all of the bedrooms for those guests who enjoy staying in touch with their virtual friends, or to simply keep tabs on world news.

The O'Callaghan Eliott Hotel is within short walking distance from the airport and occupies a central position, which is handy for business and holiday visitors alike. The four star hotel sits in a leafy square, which is just off the pedestrianised shopping zone of Main Street. It boasts a gymnasium, sauna and a roof top swimming pool for when you want to cool off. Guests can also dine in the roof top bistro or enjoy an al fresco summer barbecue. All of the rooms are spacious, comfortable, and contemporary in design with balconies offering stunning panoramic views of the Rock and the Bay of Gibraltar. Jazz lovers can also enjoy an evening of live music every Thursday night.

If you're travelling as a family you may like to book into the four star Caleta Hotel which has a superb position in the quiet Catalan Bay, adjacent to a sandy beach and yet only a few minutes away from the airport and the centre of Gibraltar. It's also the largest of the Gibraltar hotels, having 169 bedrooms and offering a choice of self-catering apartments too. You'll find modern comfortable rooms and suites, a health and beauty club, restaurant and some pretty impressive conference, wedding and banqueting rooms. The Caleta also offers a free crèche for toddlers aged between 6 weeks and five years. Manned by two qualified nursery nurses it gives parents the ideal opportunity to spend some relaxing time together around the pool or enjoying some spa pampering.

For those on a tighter budget, the three star Bristol Hotel is located in the heart of town with easy access to all Gibraltar attractions as well as tax free shopping on nearby Main Street. The Marina which is also in close proximity, has a wide range of restaurants offering a choice of delicious culinary delights, and for those nature lovers amongst you, how about taking in a Dolphin sightseeing tour? The hotel is a family run business containing 60 bedrooms all with en suite facilities, a swimming pool and a delightful sub tropical garden in which to relax. It also offers snacks, tea, coffee and other drinks, which are provided 24 hours a day from well stocked vending machines located next to the reception. The Breakfast Room which overlooks the pool and garden serves as the venue for a self service continental-style breakfast.

Finally, if you're looking for somewhere cosy and comfortable to use as a base when you travel to Gibraltar (which is a little different to say the least) then how about staying B&B style at Con Dios. This is a lovely boat which is moored permanently in Marina Bay, where you'll be assured of a friendly welcome from the owners who have a wealth of local knowledge. You can enjoy a fantastic breakfast as you sit on deck watching the sun come up over the Rock. The rooms are comfortable and well furnished with tea and coffee making facilities and there's also free WiFi.

There is a fine selection of hotels in Gibraltar to suit every taste and budget, so take your time to choose what's right for you, and then kick back, relax and enjoy!
