Miss Gibraltar in Canada

We’ve spent all of today taking in the beautiful sights of Vancouver thanks to Tourism Vancouver, who very kindly gave us an open pass to all of the cities major attractions.

Our first stop was Stanley Park, which looks more like a forest to me, a green haven in the very heart of Vancouver. We were able to see some of the native art in the area, which included some very big and intricate totem poles. We then moved on to the Capilano Suspension bridge that takes you back to the 1800s Canada and boasts breathtaking views of the lakes and forests. The actual bridge was quite scary though as it was very high up and I’m not a very big fan of heights, it also swings quite violently, from side to side; but it was worth the view!

Day 3 - From One Event To Another

Miss Gibraltar in Canada

The past couple of days have been filled with a variety of events all of a very different nature to each other.

A very large part of the reason I am here in Vancouver is to learn about the work that Tara (Miss World Canada 2012) does. She works in the fight to end human trafficking and has made a career from public speaking and mentoring in this field. As a result she travels the world and actively helps people who are victims of trafficking or slavery and empowers women and young children in developing countries in order to avoid these situations.

Miss International

If I were to sum up my experience, I would describe it as one of the most grueling but incredible experiences I have had to date. Though my photos state otherwise, it has been physically and emotionally exhausting, all contestants were absolutely knackered and were layering on the concealer! For the past three weeks I lost the concept of time and day, all I knew is I was waking up at 5:30am everyday and going to bed at around 12am as we had morning, afternoon and evening activities scheduled.

Miss Gibraltar and Miss Canada

I’ve been invited on a really exciting trip to Vancouver, Canada by Miss World Canada 2012. It’s such an incredible opportunity to be able to travel there and reunite myself with some of my friends from the Miss World pageant and get to know Vancouver, which from what I’ve heard is idyllic.

Miss Gibraltar In Vancouver

I’ve only been here for a day and we’ve done so much already. The first thing that struck me was how beautiful Canada is, the scenery is absolutely breathtaking.  Vancouver is a very cosmopolitan city, it reminds me of Gibraltar in many ways because many people from different cultural, religious and ethnic backgrounds live and work together in harmony on a day to day basis.

Miss International - Group Photo

Hi everyone,

It's already been 5 days since I arrived to Okinawa and it feels like I have been here much longer due to the non-stop activities, but I’m loving every minute of it! I am embracing the Japanese culture and it’s becoming natural to me to bow my head when I get to meet the locals when we're out on our trips, arigatou seems to just roll off the tongue and as I’m becoming good friends with miss Japan (my chopsticks technique has definitely improved).

One of my highlights so far has been the press conference, where I was interviewed by a Japanese news station (with a translator of course, I’m not fluent yet!) and then taking a group photo by one of the most historical sites on the island.

A Taste of Canadian Life

Miss Gibraltar in Canada

My second day here in Canada has been quite eye opening. I have had the opportunity to meet many different people from different walks of life and visit places that reflect all the different communities in Vancouver.

We visited a native art gallery in the morning. The native people of Canada were the first nations to inhabit the continent and have unfortunately led difficult lives, since Canada and the USA were colonised in the 1700s. The art gallery was fascinating; they explained to us that all of the different animals and symbols are unique to every tribe and they all symbolise different feelings and emotions. We were shown everything from very majestic totem poles to intricate dream catchers.

Update 2 From Kerri - Leaving Day!

Miss Gibraltar - Miss International

THE DAY HAS FINALLY ARRIVED - Only a few hours away before I leave to Miss International and surprisingly enough I am feeling quite calm, it still feels a bit surreal that I am actually leaving to go to Japan.

Exactly like the Miss Gibraltar pageant, the day before was absolutely hectic, a lot of running round town doing last minute shopping, fittings, final beauty treatments at The Home of your Beauty - a Body wrap from Janice Hair Salon, collecting my final dress from Dorcas (which am keeping a secret!) and had a educational seminar on Gibraltar delivered by Gail (former Miss Gibraltar) at the Tourist Board. All of this while trying to fight the torrential storm that decided to descend on Gibraltar for the two days where it would have been helpful to have a tiny bit of sunshine, but succeeded to complete all my to do list!
