Jun 30 – First Minister Of Wales Visits The Rock

The Chief Minister, Fabian Picardo, welcomed the First Minister of Wales, Carwyn Jones, to No6 Convent Place yesterday evening.

This morning they held a press conference which YGTV streamed live on Facebook - please visit our Facebook page to view this: https://www.facebook.com/YourGibraltarTV/

The Chief Minister said that the issues of common interest that had emerged during his meeting with Mr Jones had been “an eye-opener.”

Mr Jones said it was “hugely important” in the uncertainty surrounding Brexit to seek a wide consensus on what transitional deal would be negotiated by the UK government.

He stressed that this would only be possible in consultation with the devolved administrations, the crown dependencies and Gibraltar

“The first thing to remember is that this can’t all be done in Westminster – the UK is not a unitary state,” he said.

He said: “We will ensure that the voices of both Wales and Gibraltar are heard loud and clear.”

He added that tariff-free access to the EU’s Single Market was essential to the economic prosperity of Wales.

Mr Picardo said Gibraltar needed to foster good relationships with the four separate nations that make up the UK.

Mr Jones also said that Gibraltar was "powerful" in its relationship with the UK.
