Jun 05 - Teachers’ Union Welcomes Appreciation From Chief Minister On Direct Democracy

Gibraltar NASUWT, the teachers’ union, says it would like to thank the Chief Minister for his “appreciative words” towards teachers as expressed in last night’s Direct Democracy’ programme on GBC.

Mr Picardo describing them as being ‘...a hugely important part of all of our lives.’

Gibraltar NASUWT says that most welcome was his stated disappointment at the ‘..social media debate of a lot of people being very deprecating about teachers.’

A spokesperson continued: “On the issue of the Pay Adjustment Claim counter proposal, we would like to kindly remind the Chief Minister of his comment in his public letter of the 9th May 2019 where he wrote: ‘In any event, I would expect to make you a credible counter proposal by the end of the first week in June.’ It was disappointing to hear him say that ‘I will have some information from PWC (Price Waterhouse Coopers) in days’ implying a further wait for any negotiations to commence.

“Our wish to resolve the Pay Adjustment Claim quickly, amicably and avoiding any form of disruption to schools remains a high priority. However on the 26th of this month, a whole year will have passed since we submitted our Pay Adjustment Claim with no counter proposal having been submitted to date.”
