Apr 18 - Fabian Amongst Fabians

fabian societyYesterday evening in the lower depths of the Central London Fabian Society building, Chief Minister Fabian Picardo addressed a small group of the progressive left – wing think tank members on the matter of ‘Gibraltar in Europe’.

The society was formed in 1884 and is closely affiliated with the Labour Party. As he began his address, which touched upon a spectrum of matters relating to Gibraltar, including gaming, Gibraltar’s economy and its relationship with Spain, Mr. Picardo said that he felt amongst friends, and had never seen a room so full of Fabians.

Speaking to YGTV about why holding these meetings, and continuing to lobby Gibraltar’s cause around was important, Mr. Picardo noted that influencing at this level on the left wing, is absolutely essential. He added that some of the questions raised at the meeting were completely ill-informed, and this served as an opportunity to put the right information in this forum, hope that it spreads, and continue to do this job so that Gibraltar’s message is carried as far and wide as possible.

Within the audience sat a number of friends of Gibraltar including MP for Heywood and Middleton, Jim Dobbin, Sarah Sackman whose father and grandfather were Gibraltarian and possible contender for a labour seat as MEP for South West England and Gibraltar, Hadley Roberts.

Mr. Picardo dedicated his speech to the late Minister Bruzon, he said that good men like Charles make politics an endeavour worth doing.
