May 09 PDP - New Queens National Theatre
The PDP welcomes the announcement of the purchase of the old Queens Cinema by the Government to convert this into a much needed theatre for Gibraltar. The provision of this was a PDP manifesto commitment and that it is now going to become a reality can only be a positive move for drama, culture, entertainment and the promotion of these in our people and our schools. The location of the new theatre at the old cinema site is far more functional than the old Theatre Royal site well apart from the financial fiasco that particular GSD project turned into.
It seems that it is going ahead with consultation with the future users of this and would hope that it is well planned to cater for all our community’s cultural needs.
The PDP also hopes that this time we do actually end up with a usable facility that is finished to a high standard but comes in on budget and doesn’t end up costing the taxpayer any more than has already been spent on failed attempts.
