Jul 25 - Guardia Civil In Tense Standoff With RGP And Royal Navy
A tense standoff occurred earlier this morning as a Government contracted tug (middle of pic) continued its operations off the runway accompanied by the RGP, the GDP, the Royal Navy and two Guardia Civil vessels.
According to Spanish media reports, the creation of an artificial reef off the runway in British Gibraltar Territorial Waters will seriously limit Spanish fishing in the area.
The Algeciras newspaper Europa Sur carries an interview with the owner of the Divina Providencia fishing boat in which he says that the concrete blocks that were being dropped in the area yesterday would make the raking of the seabed for shellfish impossible because of large metal spikes protruding from these blocks.
The owner of the vessel said that the fishermen had enjoyed several months without experiencing any problems but that this latest move represented a “tough blow.”
