Feb 27 - Unite Welcomes Anti-Bullying Legislation

Unite the union would like to thank the Government and the Chief Minister for having “so passionately defended” and subsequently introduced legislation which will significantly reduce what it terms as the “scourge” of bullying in workplaces in Gibraltar.

A spokesperson said: “Many hours of working together to produce the Dignity At Work (DAW) Policy and the brand new Act have been afforded by dedicated individuals comprising the DAW Committee. Unite the Union wishes to congratulate and thank the following organisations and its representatives for their tireless endeavours in making sure the said Policies and Act come to fruition-: HMGOG: Mr M Crome, DAWN: Mr F Buttigieg, GGCA: Mr C Avellano, GTA: Mr V Gonzalez, Mr S Borastero, HR Dept.: Mr C Couper, Miss N Casciaro and others behind the scenes, Legal Dept.: Mr K Warwick and others, Dr. R Beguelin and Unite the Union:  Mr E Baglietto

“Notwithstanding apprehension among certain quarters, the Government announced that a period of grace would ensue so as to provide space/time for concerned parties to acquaint themselves with the Bullying at Work Act. The Chief Minister Fabian Picardo further stated he would set up a Commencement Committee to meet and deal with any queries/ concerns with employers of any industry.

“In this regard Unite the Union would be honoured to serve in whatever way possible in furtherance of the propagation of the new Bill and of making sure employers and employees alike mutually benefit in making their workplaces a more healthy and prosperous place to dwell. In this respect Unite remains at the Government’s and other organisations’ disposal in any way we can assist.”
