The GSD has today filed a Parliamentary motion calling for the creation of a Public Accounts Committee as recommended by the Principal Auditor together with other measures to ensure that the audits of years subsequent to 2018 are facilitated and unblocked by Government.
A statement from the Government in reply to the GSD’s comments on the GHA’s Pathology department follows below:
The Government regrets the lack of understanding demonstrated by the GSD’s Joelle Ladislaus in the conclusions she draws from the Principal Auditor’s report regarding the GHA’s Pathology Department. Ms Ladislaus' comments completely contradict the very nature of what the GHA represents as it was the GHA who requested the audit into the pathology department in the first instance.

As Mr Picardo has no real answer for the criticisms of the Principal Auditor he now resorts to his traditional and tiresome blame of the past and everything GSD. The idea that the GSD is to blame for financial issues that are occurring now or 6 years ago under Mr Picardo’s administration is palpable and utter nonsense.

In the financial year 2022/2023, the Pathology Department of the GHA spent a total of £4.5m on purchasing laboratory equipment, scientific apparatus, solutions/reagents, testing equipment etc, (the £4.5m did not include purchases of items separately financed by the Covid-19 Special Fund).
The GSD have issued a statement relating to a contract to renovate a tunnel under the Europa Sports Hall.
