The Opposition has today pointed out that ‘the Government is deliberately confusing the issue of the power station with that of the LNG storage, supply and bunkering installation.’
In response to yesterday’s criticism by the GSD of the Government’s position on illegal net fishing in the bay, a Government spokesperson has accused the party of attempting to ‘hide their desire for the illegal fishing to continue under the type of agreement they did in the late nineties’.
The GSD has criticised the Government today for ‘permitting hauls of fish to be netted illegally’ in BGTW, despite their 2011 manifesto commitment to ‘ensure the ban on the use of drift nets and other nets’.
The party touches upon recent reports of Spanish fishing trawlers hauling in nets of fish in the area of the artificial reef.
While the feud over the safety of the LNG Power Station continues, the Government has rejected Opposition concerns by ‘reassuring the public that the tender for the new dual-fired power station was only awarded after it was established that Liquefied Natural Gas could be safely delivered and stored in Gibraltar.’
