A group of six Gibraltar students are currently in New York and will be attending the Chief Minister's address to the United Nations' Fourth Committee later today.
Dismissing claims by the Chief Minister that the Opposition ignored warnings ‘about the need to upgrade the electricity distribution system following the 2005 report’ whilst in Government, the GSD has insisted that Gibraltar would have a New Power Station and distribution system, had the GSLP/ Liberal Government not scrapped the contract.
Raising the matter of Debentures, the GSD has today noted the Government’s recent move to send notices to certain debentures holders ‘informing them that it had decided to redeem their debentures and offering them the opportunity of investing the money in the Gibraltar Savings Bank (“GSB”).’
The Chief Minister is set to address the United Nations’ 4th Committee on Wednesday. Ahead of the trip to New York, the Chief Minister, along with Deputy Chief Minister Dr. Garcia held a meeting with MOD officials in London. Mr. Picardo and Dr Garcia will return to Gibraltar on Friday. During their absence, the Acting Chief Minister will be the Hon John Cortes.
