Jan 18 - Gibraltar's New Governor Lt Gen Edward Davis Arrives On The Rock Tomorrow
Governor-designate Lt Gen Edward Davis CB, CBE and Mrs Lorraine Davis will arrive in Gibraltar aboard RFA Mounts Bay tomorrow, Tuesday 19 February.
This continues the long tradition of new Governors arriving in Gibraltar by Royal Navy vessel. Governor Alison MacMillan and her husband Mr Lee will welcome the Governor-designate and Mrs Davis on board after RFA Mounts Bay comes alongside at British Forces HQ.
The Chief Minister and Mrs Picardo will greet the Governor-designate and Mrs Davis as they disembark and set foot on Gibraltar soil and the Royal Gibraltar Regiment will fire a 17-gun Salute.
On his arrival at Parliament, the Speaker will accompany the Governor-designate into Parliament to meet members of both sides of the House. The Clerk will read out the Royal Commission as a Proclamation and the Chief Justice will administer the Oaths. A Royal Fanfare will then be sounded by the RG Buglers.
On exiting Parliament, the Port Sergeant will hand the Keys to the new Governor and Commander-in-Chief of Gibraltar, followed by a Royal Salute and inspection of the RG Guard of Honour. His Excellency will also meet the Commissioner of Police Eddie Yome.
His Excellency and Mrs Davis will leave City Hall together with the Chief Minister and Mrs Picardo and walk along Main Street to the Convent.
