Apr 24 - Education At The Alameda: Buy A Plaque, Build A Future

Education work at the Gibraltar Botanic Gardens is going from strength to strength.

Through work with local schools, the Alameda Gardening Clubs and activities run during school holidays, The Alameda Education Team has succeeded not only in broadening the environmental education on offer to local children, but has also helped to develop a joy and love of gardening and the environment in many of those lucky enough to have been able to take part.

In order to continue and grow, the Alameda team is now reaching out to the whole community to help.

A spokesperson said: “We are setting up a crowdfunding initiative so as to raise money for a new BioDome set in a specific area for education within the botanic gardens.  Through this, we are offering locally based companies, small businesses, families and individuals the chance to sponsor a plaque of recognition, which will be on view to all visitors to the Alameda for years to come.

“The plaques can be “purchased” in memory of a loved one, to commemorate a special occasion, to leave your family name in the gardens or to show support from a company or local business.  Plaques will vary in size, depending on the level of the donation offered.  All monies raised this way will go towards reaching our target, which will pay for the project as well as some of the education work which will be carried out once the BioDome has been installed.”

The suggested donation levels are:

Donation - Reward

> £50 - Small triangle (approx 270 cm sq) with name

> £500 - Medium Triangle (approx 1080 cm sq) with wording and name

> £1,000 - Small Hexagon (approx 1624 cm sq) with wording and name

> £5,000 - Large Hexagon (approx 6495 cm sq ) with company Logo and wording

Plaques are limited in number and will be made available on a “first come, first served” basis.  The plaques will remain the property of the Gibraltar Botanic Gardens and will be displayed within the gardens.

Further opportunities to support the project include the possibility to donate the cost of specific items within the Education Area itself.
