Apr 27 – Chief Minister: Unions And Government Work Together To Ensure Protection Of Workers
The Chief Minister addressed union members, dignitaries and representatives from the emergency services and the construction industry during this morning’s Workers’ Memorial Day ceremony at the Alameda Gardens.
Mr Picardo said:
“Six years ago, I was able to say that, in the time that we had been in government, there had not been any serious industrial accidents and no man, or woman, had lost their lives at work. Six years on, I am very proud to say the same thing. And this doesn’t happen because we’ve been lucky; it happens because we’ve been careful. Because unions and government together work to ensure that the protection of workers in their place of work can give family members their peace of mind that when somebody leaves home in the morning, they are going to come back that afternoon, back to their families, with their lives intact.
“It’s easy to celebrate, it’s harder to mourn. Let’s make sure we do the hard work that we need to do to always be careful enough in every place of work that we never have to mourn the loss of a fellow worker in Gibraltar again.”
