Jul 17 - TSN Host Its First Digital Breakfast

TSN hosted its first Digital Breakfast for over 40 of Gibraltar’s professionals involved in the digital assets and distributed ledger technology industries. Attendees were left with unique thought provoking points on the management of digital assets and the digital estate.

The event had presentations from both Philip Vasquez, Associate of TSN, and guest speaker Leigh Sagar Esq. Barrister of New Square Chambers, London who has recently published a book ‘The Digital Estate’ whose talk focused on the legal considerations of estate and trust planning with regards to digital assets and digital property.

Philip Vasquez, Associate TSN Barristers & Solicitors said: “As one of Gibraltar’s more versatile and approachable firms, we wanted to hold an event showcasing our ability to assist beyond matters relating to the established regulatory positioning that Gibraltar enjoys in relation to Distributed Ledger Technologies (“DLT”). In addition to the advice we are currently giving our Clients on token generating events (ICOs), investment funds investing in cryptocurrencies and private clients with high net-worth in digital assets regularising their position in Gibraltar, we wanted to illustrate that there are further considerations in respect of enforcement, estate planning, wills, trusts, taxation and private client when it comes to digital assets. As Gibraltar increasingly attracts leaders in DLT and cryptocurrencies, the consideration of these individuals’ personal affairs need to be considered by professionals and intermediaries. We are happy that this unique facet of discussion was very well received and we look forward to holding more unique value driven events.”

Leigh Sagar Esq. New Square Chambers, London, added: “This is my second time in Gibraltar speaking on matters relating to digital assets and given the jurisdiction’s position and regulatory framework, the level of knowledge of digital assets of the attendees is genuinely impressive and only natural. As a result I was happy to share my thoughts and talk about legal considerations and planning around digital assets. I would reiterate that people shouldn’t solely be concerned with regulatory aspects of DLT and digital assets. There are other aspects such as, for example: planning for estates; securing digital assets; ensuring that fiduciaries have sufficient powers to manage and invest in crypto assets on behalf of others. After having met over a coffee with Philip at a blockchain conference 2 years ago, it is amazing to see that such a special event can follow after keeping regular contact over this period. I look forward to working with TSN in future and holding other events with the firm in London with our chambers in the future.”

A spokesperson for TSN said: "Our technology and financial services team regularly advise on cryptocurrency mining intermediaries, token generating events, investment funds investing in cryptocurrencies, advising banks on on-boarding of cryptocurrency business, dispute resolution concerning digital assets and private client work and planning relating to digital assets. We also have experience in advising on software development agreements and other regulatory considerations. In addition to our fintech team, where we also regularly advise international banks our firm also has extensive abilities to service other functions of your business including employment, property and financing.
