Dec 10 - Newly Promoted Sergeants Complete Leadership & Custody Courses

The Royal Gibraltar Police has announced that the recently promoted Police Sergeants have passed their Leadership Development and Custody Officer Courses.

The officers attended a seven day training course where they successfully demonstrated their communication and leadership skills and studied to learn the role of the Custody Officer.

Police Sergeants Tanya McLeod, Danny Howard, James Rodriguez, Mark Schembri, Craig Philbin, Louis Bruzon, Sean Picton, Francis Marin and Scott Strachan are all currently working in their respective departments in Crime and Operations and are now qualified to cover the Custody department giving the organisation further resources to deploy.

A spokesperson said: "The Custody Sergeant is responsible for processing persons arrested by police as well as ensuring the safety and welfare of all detained persons
held in police custody.

"The officer will also ensure that arrested persons are aware of their rights while being kept in custody and ensure these are respected in keeping with legal requirements.

"Any adverse incident where a person may become unwell or injured whilst in police custody will be managed by the Custody Sergeant and as such, it is critical that the role is performed correctly.

"The RGP would like to congratulate these officers in their success and wishes them every success in the next step of their careers."
