A statement from the Government follows below:
The Ministry of Equality will mark Pride Month with an event entitled "PRIDE: Authenticity, Courage and Community", which will take place at the Sunborn Hotel on Thursday 18th June.
The Keynote Speaker and Panel Discussion event will bring together speakers from Gibraltar and further afield to share personal experiences, reflections and perspectives on identity, inclusion and belonging. Through a series of presentations and conversations, the event will explore the importance of authenticity, the courage required to be oneself and the role that communities play in fostering acceptance, support and equality.
The event forms part of the Ministry of Equality’s programme of activities to mark Pride Month and seeks to encourage constructive dialogue, raise awareness of LGBTQ+ experiences and celebrate the diversity that enriches Gibraltar's community.
The event is open to members of the public, representatives from the public and private sectors, community organisations and anyone with an interest in promoting equality, inclusion and respect.
The Minister for Equality, the Hon Christian Santos GMD MP, said: “Pride Month provides us with an opportunity not only to celebrate diversity, but also to listen, learn and reflect. This event will create a space for meaningful conversations about identity, authenticity and the importance of community. By sharing lived experiences and different perspectives, we can continue to build understanding, challenge prejudice and strengthen our commitment to equality for all.
“Gibraltar has made significant progress in advancing equality and LGBTQ+ rights over recent years, but there is always value in continuing the conversation. I am delighted that we will be welcoming speakers from both Gibraltar and beyond to contribute to what promises to be an insightful and inspiring event.”
Attendance is free of charge, but registration is required. Anyone wishing to attend should contact the Ministry of Equality by emailing [email protected] or by calling 200 66819 to reserve a place.
