Mar 26 - Dance Organisation Revamp

gndoAs part of the GNDOs attempt to revamp the organisation, President Seamus Byrne has announced the new Committee, including vice president, Adrian Lopez and Secretary Belize Cortes. The reshuffle also includes Noemi Chipolina on the Working Committee along with Wendy Garro, Shawn Gonzales and Alfred Rumbo. IT Support will include Elijah Cruz and Alan Pereira.

Commenting on the initiative, Seamus Byrne noted, ‘my aim is to take the GNDO to another level and help our dancing fraternity raise its dance standards. One way to do it will be providing opportunities at competitions in other dance genres other than Show Dance, in Jazz, Modern and Street Dance. And we will also provide educational development programmes through dance workshops, summer schools and the possibility of bringing professional companies.

One of the hardest tasks since the inception, was to set up a committee with people who have hardly any links to any local dance school or dance centre, but at the same time are pro-dance, and are able to give up their free time voluntarily for Gibraltar’s youth’.

A new 23-page constitution has been re-drafted, as part of the changes. The new document claims that the GNDO’s aims and objectives include; the promotion and encouragement of the development of Dance in Gibraltar, to act as cultural and educational benefit for young performers in the community. The Organisation also aims to encourage public interest in the art of dance, as well as Gibraltar’s representation at international event and festivals.

The GNDO’s newly revamped website has also bee launched recently at www.gndo.org. Paulette Finlayson-Napoli has been appointed the Gibraltar National Dance Team Captain for 2013 and 2014.
