May 07 - AN EVENING AT GIBRALTAR HOUSE WITH BRITISH AIRWAYS

British Airways in Gibraltar HouseThe Gibraltar Tourist Board (GTB) hosted an event at Gibraltar House in London in association with British Airways (BA) on 29th April.

BA flies daily from Heathrow to Gibraltar and twice daily on Saturdays and Sundays. The airline provides a very welcome connection through London to the rest of the world.

The Gibraltar Tourist Board consistently supports BA’s services in the form of marketing campaigns, mainly centred on features in the HighLife magazine and advertising on on-line boarding passes, among other activities.

The support goes further with road shows held in London specifically targeting the Heathrow catchment area and efforts are constantly made to promote the airline at all the exhibitions and events that the GTB organise and attend. The GTB will continue to look at ways in which they can work together with BA to sustain traffic to the Rock and encourage growth.

At the event, representatives from British Airways and travel agents from the central London area had the opportunity to see the film that was originally produced specifically for BA and was shown on long haul flights last December. The film has attracted much admiration and now ranks as one of the main marketing tools used by the GTB at tourism events.

Commenting on the event, the Hon Neil Costa MP, Minister for Tourism, Commercial Affairs, Public Transport and the Port said, “Her Majesty’s Government of Gibraltar is keen to see Gibraltar House host small, intimate events that aim to showcase Gibraltar, its attractions, flavours and culture. The Government is tireless in its support of the tourism industry and we are particularly set on building upon our excellent working relationship with our tourism partners. Since I became Minister for Tourism in December of 2011, I have made a particular point to cement one-to-one relationships with the airline, meeting regularly with the decision makers at BA. It has been a pleasure to exchange information at these meetings and to achieve progress, with the airline taking the decision to increase capacity to the Rock last winter. We shall continue to assist in any way we can and to help BA develop traffic to Gibraltar, as we feel that there is much potential yet to be explored. My gratitude goes to the team at Gibraltar House for their hard work in putting this event together and I hope this will only be the first of many events like this.”
