May 13 - GGR Human Rights Award Presented to Hassans Lawyer
Equality Rights Group, the GGR have this year established an annual excellence and recognition award to celebrate individuals who have ‘contributed significantly to the advancement of equality, civil and human rights in Gibraltar. The award, which has been presented to John Restano of Hassans is set to be presented annually.
A spokesman for the group noted that Mr. Restano’s generous and highly successful work over the years in this field, including the Nadine Rodriquez housing case, the equalization of the age of consent and the recent equality in adoption, dubbed him a perfect candidate for the first award.
Mr. Restano’s plaque states, ‘with deep and sincerest gratitude for the generous, unassuming and committed service and support in the furtherance of equality and human and civil rights in Gibraltar rendered by Mr Restano over many years.’
The spokesman continued, ‘this plaque represents, therefore, but a small token of a very large debt owed by so many to Mr Restano for his outstanding landmark achievements which, in turn, have helped change lives for the better in this community. And that is the greatest honour any person can be awarded.’
