Nov 01 - Costa Launches Small Business Saturday Initiative

small business saturdaySaturday December 9th will see Gibraltar host its inaugural ‘Small business Saturday’. The brainchild of the USA, Small Business Saturday aims to promote shopping locally through promotions and discounts put on by local retailers.

The idea was put to Minister for Small Businesses, by Gibraltar Federation for Small Businesses president Gemma Arias, as well as local Main Street trader, Raju Purswani.

The event will include Main Street and all adjacent street and alleys and will include musical and dance entertainment provided by the Ministry for Culture. The event is being supported by the Chamber of Commerce, the Business Support Unit and the GFSB.

The event has been timed to coincide with the ever popular Classic Car Rally which should guarantee a good turnout of members of the public on the day.
There will be a number of stalls setting up at the Piazza, offering a diverse range of goods including jewellery and handicrafts.

Minister for Small Businesses, Neil Costa commented, ‘we are always looking at measures to stimulate economic activity, and, in this case enhancing Gibraltar’s well-established shopping experience. It will be an early opportunity for the public to get into the swing of Christmas with the many interesting buying opportunities that will be available. The Gibraltar Government is keen to provide trading opportunities for local small businesses in every way, and this initiative to encourage the public to spend in local shops, underlines that commitment.’
