Dec 23 - Dementia Information Session For Relatives

The Care Agency has said that, given the prevalence of dementia in our society, the Agency understands how difficult it is for relatives of people with dementia. With this in min, it recently organised an informative session on dementia for relatives of residents at Mount Alvernia, Jewish Home, John Cochrane Ward and Calpe Ward. Members of the Dementia & Alzheimer Society were also invited. The talk was delivered by the GHA’s consultant geriatrician, Dr Marin and psychologist, Dr Camino.

The talk was aimed at understanding the disease, managing it and informing relatives of the support available for them. It included advice on early detection of the disease and the current treatment available in which the disease may be delayed.

‘I am delighted with this new initiative. We understand how difficult it can be for relatives of people with dementia and it is important that they be supported. This session was extremely successful and I received lots of positive comments. Future sessions are already being planned’ said Samantha Sacramento, Minister for Equality, Social Services & the Elderly.
