Jan 03 - Now It's Safe: Cavalcade Sweets To Be Handed Out By Ministry Staff

As a final chapter in the Cavalcade sweets saga, it has been revealed today that sweets will in fact continue to be distributed at the Three Kings Cavalcade. Sweets will now be personally handed out to spectators instead of being thrown at them from the floats.

This minor change follows a risk assessment conducted for the Cavalcade Committee and the Royal Gibraltar Police which came out against the way in which sweets have been distributed in the past, a decision that many locals felt was another example of a health and safety culture gone mad.

The Minister for Culture Steven Linares said: "We have been working closely with the Royal Gibraltar Police and the Cavalcade Committee to ensure that the traditional distribution of sweets was not lost from this event. Therefore it has been arranged for Ministry of Culture staff to take charge of personally handing sweets to children watching along the route of the Cavalcade."

The Three King's Cavalcade will take place along Main Street this Sunday 5th January at 7.30pm
