Jan 10 - HMS Somerset on Short Visit to the Rock
HMS Somerset will arrive in Gibraltar on Monday for a short visit, as she sets out on a six-month operational deployment East of Suez.
Following a 9-month package of training she left her home in Devonport yesterday and Gibraltar will be her first port of call.
Commenting on the short visit, HMS Somerset’s Commanding Officer, Commander Mike Smith RN noted, ‘I am very proud to be commanding one of the Royal Navy’s most capable warships.’ He insisted that he has every confidence that HMS Somerset will succeed on any operational mission they are given, over the next six months.
The Royal Navy has had a continuous presence East of Suez for many years and HMS Somerset will be the latest unit to contribute to the Royal Navy’s commitment to the region.
