Some 97 soldiers from B Squadron the Light Dragoons arrived on an RAF C17 this weekend to carry out regimental duties whilst the Royal Gibraltar Regiment are on Exercise Jebel Tarik in the UK.

The Light Dragoons are a light cavalry regiment based in Swanton Morley, Norfolk. This is the first time they have been augmented to cover the duties in Gibraltar and elements of their Regiment back in the UK will be working with the Royal Gibraltar Regiment on Exercise Jebel Tarik.

Whilst in Gibraltar, alongside their security role, they will also cover the Convent Guard, complete an adventure training package and conduct military training which will include tunnel warfare training.

Officer Commanding, Major Simon Ward said: “We are delighted to be in Gibraltar covering the duties of our colleagues in the Royal Gibraltar Regiment. We have already experienced a warm welcome and look forward to the whole experience and the opportunity for both military and adventure training.”

The Light Dragoons will be conducting a number of training exercise on the Upper Rock over the next four weeks.

The public should be aware that there will be some blank firing during silent hours and that the Light Dragoons will be patrolling in full uniform on the Upper Rock during both the day and night throughout this period.
