Sep 03 - Mount Alvernia Refurbishment Complete

An extensive refurbishment project has been completed at Mount Alvernia. The works involved the replacement of crumbling balconies, extensive interior redecoration, the reinforcement of a retaining wall and exterior painting and plastering. The building, which comes under the management of the Care Agency, had been covered in scaffolding for around 12 years and a previous modernisation programme had been delayed indefinitely.

The Minister for the Elderly, Samantha Sacramento, toured Mount Alvernia this morning to inspect the renovations. She said: “I am delighted that these much-needed major refurbishment works have been able to rectify an issue which has deprived residents of the use and enjoyment of balconies for 12 years. This investment will now significantly enhance the quality of life of residents as they can now enjoy the outside space and spectacular views and it once again demonstrates this administration’s commitment to our elderly community. The planning, undertaking and completion of this project has involved many people in order to ensure that works were undertaken in a scheduled manner, causing minimal disruption to residents and I must acknowledge their professionalism. I would also like to express my thanks to the residents and management of Mount Alvernia for their patience and understanding whilst the refurbishment work was being carried out.”
