Sep 09 - Gibraltar Students to Visit Brussels

news As a result of meetings between the Deputy Chief Minister and retired teachers Ivan Navas and Albert Danino, has set up a visit to the EU institutions in Brussels for a group of fourteen Year 13 students of Bayside, Westside and the College. 

An essay competition was organized and the winners selected to make the trip. While in Brussels, the students will visit the European Commission building and the Council of the European Union.

They will also have meetings with several Members of the European Parliament and political groups from across the spectrum in order to obtain an overview of the European institutions and how they work. This includes Gibraltar Conservative MEP Ashley Fox, Labour MEP Clare Moody, Green MEP Molly Scott Cato and UKIP MEP William Dartmouth. They will also have an opportunity to talk to members of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe (ALDE) and of the European People's Party.

The Deputy Chief Minister, Dr. Garcia noted that the purpose of the visit is informational. He added, ‘I am very grateful to Albert Danino and Ivan Navas for everything that they have done. The Government has been happy to provide organisational and logistical support because believe that it is important that young people should know about how Europe works.’
