Apr 21 - Port Authority Staff Attend Basic Bunkering Course

During the recent Regional Bunker Forum held in Gibraltar by the International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA), the Gibraltar Port Authority (GPA) took advantage of the wider activities surrounding this event to enhance and further develop its expertise. A session of the IBIA ‘Basic Bunkering Course’ was held onboard the Sunborn on the day preceding the Bunker Forum, and a number of GPA staff attended. The course covered the bunker supply chain, from the initial identification of a requirement for bunkers, to the purchase and delivery processes, verification, quality assurance, and potential pitfalls all the way to how to handle a claim.

Commenting during the presentation of certificates, the Captain of the Port and CEO, Commodore Bob Sanguinetti stated: “A number of GPA staff were offered the opportunity to participate and gain a very useful insight into this important sector of the shipping industry. The feedback following the course from those attending was extremely positive. It highlighted staff interest in this very specialised industry, underpinned by the emphasis placed by the GPA on education and training as a fundamental part of the personal development of its team.”
