Jul 22 – Fleet Commander Visits British Forces Gibraltar

Fleet Commander and Deputy Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Sir Philip Jones KCB visited British Forces Gibraltar this week.

This was Vice Admiral Jones’ first visit to British Forces Gibraltar in his current appointment. As part of his programme he went to sea with Royal Navy Gibraltar Squadron and paid a visit to both the Command Diving Element and Windmill Hill Signal Station.

Vice Admiral Jones was keen to meet as many serving personnel in Gibraltar as possible and was particularly impressed with the cohesive working between military and civilian staff, he said:

“This has been an excellent opportunity to come and meet our naval personnel who are serving in British Forces Gibraltar, but it has also given me the chance to witness the team effort from both military and civilian staff. The high level of willingness to help ensures we have an extremely effective Forward Mounting Base that directly provides vital support to our fleet operations.”

During his visit Vice Admiral Jones met with the Governor and had a courtesy call with the Chief Minister.
