Jul 31 – GSLA Annual Summer Sports Programme Week 3

The programme consists of the Sports Train, Children’s Corner and Teen Sports, all organised directly by the GSLA within the Bayside Sports Centre. The GSLA has also partnered with Gibraltar’s voluntary sports Associations and leisure providers to allow for a broad and diverse range of other sports and leisure opportunities which will take place at the Bayside Sports Centre and other leisure facilities over the next week.

Activities of note this coming week include:

Sports Train, Children’s Corner and children’s favourite, the very spooky Maze of Doom!

  •  Cheerleading workshops covering Pom Dance, Street cheer, Stunting and Gymnastics 9 to 1pm for girls aged 5 to 12.
  • Netball Summer Camp with an introduction to High Fives Netball, ‘Fun’damentals of movement and ball skills for children aged 8 to 12 on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 to 12 noon at the Bayside Sports Centre’s Victoria Sports Hall.
  • Yoga for children aged 8 to 12 on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 to 12 noon at the Bayside Sports Centre’s Victoria Sports Hall. Sessions will include techniques for calming, exercise and confidence development, as well as fun storytelling and games.

Other sports and leisure sessions ongoing throughout the GSLA’s Summer Sports Programme include popular staples such as:

  • Sports Train for children over the age of 7 years - Monday to Friday 10am to 12.30pm.
  • Children’s Corner for children aged 5 and 6 years – Monday, Wednesday and Friday 10am to 12 noon.
  • Stay and Play programme for children with special needs, with activities such as swimming at GSLA small pool, integration with the Sports Train and outings to Gibraltar’s historical locations.
  • Cheerleading every Thursday from 9 to 1pm for girls aged 5 to 12 at the Bayside Sports Centre’s Tercentenary Sports Hall.
  • Netball for children aged 8 to 12 on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10 to 12 noon at the Bayside Sports Centre’s Victoria Sports Hall.
  • Family Fun Sports Evening on Tuesday from 7:30 to 10pm at the Bayside Sports Centre. Activities planned include Badminton, Boccia, Table Tennis, Darts, Climbing and Paddle Tennis. All members of the family are welcome, including youngsters, parents and grandparents.
  • Childline Journalism and Creative Media Workshop on Tuesday from 11:30 to 12:30.
  • Cricket for boys and girls aged 6 to 11 at the Bayside Sports Centre Main Pitch. Boys’ sessions will be held on Monday and Wednesday. Girls’ sessions are on Tuesday and Thursday, with Friday seeing a Kwik cricket competition for both boys and girls.
  • Beginner Learn to Swim classes for 4 to 8 year olds at the GSLA accessible swimming pool.
  • Rock Stars Ice Skating for beginners as well as tuition for advanced skaters at King’s Bastion Ice Skating Rink from 9:15 to 12:15.
  • Tennis for children over 5 of any skill level at the Queensway Tennis Courts.
  • Eco Arts Workshops from Monday to Wednesday for children interested in painting, drawing and sculpting at the Alameda Gardens.
  • Happy Crafting at the Gibraltar Arts & Crafts Centre and in Casemates for children aged 4 to 9.
  • RGP Kids Summer Camp for children aged 8 to 11. Activities planned include Crime Scene Investigations, Police Dog displays and a Wash and Splash Fun Day.
  • Outdoor Painting on Monday at Gibraltar’s beautiful Commonwealth Park and on Tuesday at Catalan Bay.
  • Advanced Sailing Summer School from 9:30 to 12:30pm for children aged 8 to 15.
  • Walks through History for children aged 9 to 12 organised by the Gibraltar Museum. There are a number of exciting locations being visited this summer which allows children a rare opportunity to visit the fascinating areas steeped in Gibraltar’s diverse history such as; the Neanderthal Caves, which involves a possible boat trip; the Mediterranean Steps and their brilliant views of the bay either side of Gibraltar; as well as like the 700-year old Moorish Castle, the WWII tunnels that wind through the Rock of Gibraltar itself and the huge 100 Ton Gun and Parson’s Lodge Battery.
  • St John Ambulance Young First Aider Course for 11 to 15 year olds at St John House.
