Mar 07 - Minister Congratulates Taekwondo And Netball Squads

The Minister for Sport, Steven Linares, has sent a congratulatory message to the Gibraltar Taekwondo squad that returned home from their participation at the Northern Ireland International Poomsae Championships with three gold and one silver medal respectively. The event that took place in Belfast was attended by 390 competitors from across 13 countries.

“The medal haul is proof of the continued work of the Gibraltar Taekwondo Association and their great coaches. When the calibre of opponent is analysed the results are even more praiseworthy. Megan Ruiz, Macy Cornelio and Ilya Rodionov have done Gibraltar proud”

Minister Linares has also commended the Gibraltar Netball U17 squad for achieving a silver medal in the Netball Europe Under 17 Challenge Section.

“Belfast has been a happy hunting ground for Gibraltarian sport in the last few weeks as it was also the host city for the Netball U17 Challenge Section. Once again, the GNA committee, coaches and players must be congratulated on their achievement and this result will definitely serve as a spring board for the U21 Championships to be held in Gibraltar in 2018. Special mention must also go to Anna Hernandez who was named as the best player in the Challenge Section. Well Done!”
