May 11 - Gibraltar FA President Appointed To FIFA Ethics Committee

Gibraltar FA President, Michael Llamas QC, has been elected as a member of the FIFA Ethics Committee by the 67th annual FIFA Congress which took place today in Manama, Bahrain.

A statement from the GFA continued: “Gibraltar has only been a FIFA member for a year, as the GFA was admitted as FIFA’s 211th Member at FIFA’S 66th Congress, in Mexico City, in May 2016. To have the GFA President elected onto such an important judicial body in the governance of World Football, after being part of the FIFA family for just a year, is a tremendous recognition for Mr. Llamas personally and for the stature that the GFA has acquired within football’s world governing body.”

After his appointment was announced at the FIFA Congress in Bahrain, GFA President Michael Llamas stated: “My appointment today to the Investigatory Chamber of FIFA’s Ethics Committee is a source of great satisfaction to me both on a personal level and for the GFA and Gibraltar as a whole. Considering the litigious background to both our UEFA and FIFA memberships, this appointment to an important and prestigious Committee after only one year of membership, and coming from one of the smaller football nations, is a great vindication of the stature we are acquiring in the world governing body of football.”

GFA General Secretary, Dennis Beiso, is delighted at today’s news: “Michael’s election today as a member of the Investigatory Chamber of the FIFA Ethics Committee is yet another mark of the great strides being made by the GFA internationally within both UEFA and FIFA. I am especially pleased Michael’s great contribution to the relationship between the GFA and the world governing body of football has been recognised in such a significant way. That Gibraltar now has, within only one year of membership, such an important seat on one of FIFA’s key Committees is truly remarkable and a fitting testament to Michael’s work in this regard.”
