Aug 06 - US Coast Guard Recognises “Excellence” Of The Gibraltar Maritime Administration

The Gibraltar Maritime Administration (GMA) has been admitted onto the prestigious United States Coast Guard’s ‘Quality Shipping in the 21st Century Programme’ (QUALSHIP 21) – a reflection of the standards of excellence it has achieved. Gibraltar was invited to apply as a result of the Port State Control records of locally- registered vessels in US ports.

The GMA has been presented with an official certificate in recognition of its accomplishment, issued by the US Department of Homeland Security, and signed by Rear Admiral Joseph A. Servidio of the US Coast Guard.

Gibraltar’s “exceptional commitment” to qualify for the ‘QUALSHIP 21’ programme has been highlighted by Rear Admiral Servido in correspondence with local Maritime Administrator, Richard Montado.

Gibraltar has also been congratulated by US Coast Guard Commander, MB Zamperini, who is the Chief of the ‘Foreign & Offshore Vessel Compliance Division’ in Washington.

Minister for the Port, the Hon. Neil Costa, welcomed the news and said it was a positive reflection of the professional activities of the Gibraltar Maritime Administration.

Mr Costa said: “I would like to thank our maritime operators for maintaining such a high standard and also the staff at the Gibraltar Maritime Administration, led by Richard Montado, particularly his team of marine surveyors who are doing an excellent job in ensuring high quality standards of new and existing ships on the Gibraltar flag.”
