The Royal Gibraltar Police have today reminded members of the public to ignore email scams that regularly do the rounds.
These usually entail ‘confidential’ contact by a bank manager who knows about a deposit (usually in the Millions) where the depositor has passed away leaving behind no next of kin to claim the funds.
Together with other privacy enforcement authorities around the world, the Gibraltar Regulatory Authority, as Data Protection Commissioner, will be reviewing the use of personal data by mobile apps to identify privacy issues, as part of the 2014 Sweep by the Global Privacy Enforcement Network (“GPEN”).
GPEN was established to foster cross-border cooperation among privacy authorities a second sweep will take place between May 12th and 18th 2014, with authorities participating ‘in a coordinated effort to examine privacy issues related to mobile applications.’

Mobile telephone operators which are currently licensed in Gibraltar will be able to provide 4G services by October 2015 at the latest. This follows from a decision published today by the Gibraltar Regulatory Authority (“GRA”).
Environment Minister Dr John Cortes launched Gibraltar’s Geoportal this morning. The web project provides vast amounts of geographical data on Gibraltar including aerial views, land use details and even geological features. The Geoportal is part of the Government’s drive to transpose and implement all EU directives and will provide tourists, researchers, planners and the curious with an ever-evolving and in-depth picture of Gibraltar.
