The Gibraltar Defence Police’s Marine Unit has taken delivery of a new Police Launch, the Sir Evan Gibb and an Arctic 24 rigid-hulled inflatable boat. The two new vessels will serve to improve the Force’s capacity to fulfil their duties.
The Sir Evan Gibb was part of the Ministry of Defence Police in Plymouth, before arriving in Gibraltar. One of the vessel’s last tasks involved assisting a drifting ferry and its passengers.
Speaking on the new vessel, the GDP’s Chief Police Officer, Superintendent Rob Allen said, ‘We are absolutely delighted to take delivery of these vessels. The refurbished Police Launch is significantly faster than its predecessor. It is a very capable boat that will be able to operate in all seas and weather around Gibraltar. Equally, the Arctic 24 is an extremely fast, agile and very capable craft.’
Delivered to the GDP at the beginning of April, the Sir Evan Gibb and the Arctic 24 are now fully in service with the Marine Unit. The delivery of a second rigid-hulled inflatable boat is anticipated soon
