Aug 27 - Route 94 Helps Put Gibraltar On the Map

monkey rocksThis National Day, Gibraltar sets its sights on once more propelling itself into the realms of a venue known amongst the elite class of well established and hugely popular international DJs. The Monkey Rocks Festival, hosted by local events company, Project X Productions, in collaboration with the Marbella based promoters Pragma, will present deep house producer, Route 94, to a throng of house music fans who will show no mercy until they hear Route 94’s chart topping ‘My Love’, a mash up of melodic lyrics and bass drum kicks.

The event, to play out on the Gibraltar Music Festival’s second main stage at the MUGA in the Victoria Stadium, will also showcase a host of local DJs including the likes of rapidly rising Racs and Lima and Cliché residents Ethan Marin, Trevor Garcia and Jesse Lagares. The line up will also see second headliner, Chris Online, who’s sets can be caught regularly at BCM Mallorca, young DJs Thomas Palao and Nigel Ward, Colorkode, Stephan Lopez and Jestin and Mifi, who will play after Route’s 2 hour set, from 9 – 10pm.

Speaking to YGTV about the event, head of both Project X Productions and Security, the sister company set up earlier this year, Giovanni Bagu insisted that thus far, feedback has been amazing. Over 500 tickets were sold during their first week, even before the line up was announced. Currently, over 1400 tickets have been sold, with only 200 left, before partygoers will have to pay on the door.

Commenting on his choice of headliner, Giovanni, who counts Avicii as one of his favourite DJs, explained that most of Route 94’s music includes vocals, but also a mix of deep. ‘You’ve got a mix of everything in Gibraltar, nowadays the youngsters are more in to deep, but then again you’ve got people who want vocals.’ Giovanni notes that Route 94 covers almost everyone’s taste.

Fans of the former Dubstep producer will also expect to be treated to the catchy ‘Forget the Girl’ and his collaboration with Secondcity, ‘Freak’, which has proved to be one of the sexier House tunes to come out of the past couple of years.

Giovanni has big dreams for Gibraltar, noting that one day he would hope to bring the Swedish superstar, Avicii, to Gibraltar, but most of these transcendent DJs cost into the hundreds of thousands of pounds realm, and currently, that is not in anyone’s budget.

Project X has previously brought the likes of Marcos in Dub to the Rock and has also spent the Summer at the forefront of the Wild Wednesday phenomenon, hosting ‘House Of’ each Wednesday, at The Island. The company also helped put together the extremely successful Ministry of Sound Gala dinner for Christ last year, along with the GSLP Youth Section.

This show promises to celebrate National Day in a big way, with free merchandise to be given out, a huge 50-meter bar at the venue and an impressive water sprinkler machine.

Giovanni goes on to note that National Day has never offered anything different to youngster and partygoers, and the Monkey Rocks Fest will provide just that, running from 1pm to 10pm, entertainment will be plentiful throughout the afternoon.

The event is accessible to 16 year olds, who will receive a specific band allowing them to purchase alco-pops, beer, cider and tinto de verano, and those 18 years and over will be able to purchase spirits etc.

Ticket prices are now at £25, but will rise to £35 at the door.
