May 05 - Government: “Less Traffic On The Upper Rock Is A Good Thing”
The Government has said that the Opposition “are making a very peculiar habit” of criticising the Government when it adopts a position on an issue which is similar to what they used to advocate themselves when they were in office. Their latest argument in relation to the vehicles which are allowed entry into the Nature Reserve is, says Number Six, a case in point.
A statement released late yesterday evening continued: “It has already been explained that this is part of the Upper Rock Management Plan. It has already been explained that the objective is to reduce congestion, emissions and pollution in the Upper Rock. This can only be a positive measure which is beneficial for the environment.
“What has not been explained is why when they were in Government the GSD often argued that less vehicular traffic on the Upper Rock was actually a good thing for precisely the reasons that this Government has already outlined!”
