Aug 29 - GSD Not Informed on British Ambassador Talks with Junta President
Taking note of the recent news that the UK Ambassador held a meeting with the President of the Junta de Andalusia, the Opposition regrets that the people of Gibraltar must hear about such a meeting in the Spanish press, before the local press.
A statement released by the GSD notes that ‘without having further information, we do not understand why the UK Ambassador should be talking about Gibraltar to the President of the Junta de Andalusia in the absence of the Gibraltar Government.’
The party also claims that the Opposition is forced to raise the issue in Parliament, as it was not kept informed on the issue, by the Government. The statement finishes, ‘The Opposition has on many occasions defended Gibraltar and the Gibraltar Government from attack from the Spanish Government and the Spanish press. The Leader of the Opposition does it every month during speaking engagements in Spain. The Government should, however, keep the Opposition informed on issues of national importance such as these.’
