Feb 26 - GSD Calls for Publication of Power Station Risk Assessments
The Opposition has today pointed out that ‘the Government is deliberately confusing the issue of the power station with that of the LNG storage, supply and bunkering installation.’
Following a recent statement made by the Government, assuring the public of the safety of the new power station, the Opposition has noted that the contract with the HSE was entered into after the announcement of the tender for the new power station and the Government’s policy to locate it at the North Mole.
The party has voiced its doubt that the UK’s Health and Safety Executive provided a ‘detailed safety report on the LNG storage installation and bunkering capacity. They further question why the Government would be waiting for outstanding risk assessments which they claim ‘do not appear to have been commissioned from independent third parties but by those parties which may themselves stand to profit from the LNG bunkering operations.'
The GSD calls on the Government to be open and transparent and confirm that all relevant reports have been carried out and publish them including all gas cloud models, risk blast assessments and any other impact consequence assessment showing the impact of an accident to life and property of those living in the Western face of Gibraltar.
