Jul 01 – Feetham Replies To Picardo Statement

The Leader of the Opposition, Danny Feetham, has issued the following statement in response to the Chief Minister’s recent press release regarding his budget reply:

Mr Picardo continues to refuse to repeat the allegations he made against me in Parliament outside Parliament, and by simply saying he stands by everything he said, he continues to hide behind parliamentary privilege.  If Mr Picardo does not repeat the allegations outside the House and allows TRUTH to be his only defence, people will see his Budget response for what it was, a cowardly attempt to defame and destroy a political opponent under cover of parliamentary privilege and without a shred of evidence.

I am not trying to muzzle Mr Picardo. I am asking him to either withdraw the allegation or to give me a fair opportunity to defend my reputation.

It is also rich for him to talk about an attempt to muzzle him, when he is in the habit of suing ordinary citizens.

My party has taken a valid position opposing the use of LNG in the North and Detached Mole so close to residential areas on safety grounds.  People may agree or disagree with that position but it does not mean we do not have the interests of Gibraltar at heart.

In the final analysis, when you strip away all the irrelevancies the question for people is whether they want an LNG bunkering installation and LNG power station so close to their homes.
