Jul 01 - Formal Response To Leader Of The Opposition From The Chief Minister

The Chief Minister, Fabian Picardo, has responded to the challenge from the Leader of the Opposition, Daniel Feetham, to repeat the things he said in Parliament during the course of his intervention last week by saying he stands by everything he said.

Mr Picardo added: "I will not be intimidated by Daniel Feetham or muzzled or gagged in telling the truth to the people of Gibraltar as their elected Chief Minister. I know he doesn't like it that the details of his collaboration with the Spark Group of Companies has got out and that he has been seen to lie to the people of the Gibraltar about the type of commercial interests that commissioned the report the GSD tried to ruthlessly exploit. I will remind him of this as often as I have to. Investigations continue as to the cause of the recent power cuts caused by the plants that were operated by Spark. We will see what those turn up. What is clear is that Danny Feetham can't cope with the fact that he has been caught out on the report and is lashing out to try to deflect attention from his underhand collaboration with Spark. I have been called many highly defamatory things in Parliament by Mr Feetham and his predecessor, and some of his colleagues, but have never asked that they repeat the allegations outside in threatening to sue people. That's not how Parliament works. I will be referring Danny's threats, which are clearly designed to intimidate me and prevent me from doing my job as Chief Minister, to the Speaker."
