Jul 28 - New Ecopark Facility At Devil's Tower Road
A new drop-off recycling facility has opened in the Devil’s Tower Road area, and will provide a one-stop shop for all waste streams.
Residents and businesses can head down to the Ecopark at MetalRok in Flint Road to dispose of any household appliances safely and with the correct procedures in place.
Minister for the Environment Dr John Cortes said “This is a corporation between public and private sector in order to further recycling and environmental governance.”
The Ecopark accepts items such as waste electrical and electronic equipment, batteries (all types), bulky items, mattresses, tyres, waste oils, glass, paper and cardboard, mixed packaging recyclables scrap metal, paint, ozone depleting substances, end of life vehicles etc.
Gillaine Dellipiani, project manager, said: “The focus is on recycling and the full life of products.
“The importance of sites such as these is that we get a full audit trail, and we ensure we know exactly where our waste is going and we can keep a record.
“It also decreases the negative environmental impact of sending waste to landfill.”
Stephen Warr, senior environment officer said recycling is a legal requirement under the waste framework directive to help meet targets.
Vanessa Civicchioni, manager at MetalRok, explained the process of the waste facility side, which is completely free of charge to users. Residents or businesses can bring unwanted goods to the site and dispose of them in the smaller bins outside. For bulkier items, the fully-trained staff can help you unload these and the process for disposal continues. The waste is then separated, weighed and audited, and sent to the licensed disposal sites and certificates are issued to acknowledge receipt.
The Ecopark will be open 7 days a week, excluding public holidays. Opening hours are Monday – Saturday: 8am - 8pm, and Sunday: 8am - 5pm.
