Aug 21 - Frontier Queues Reach 5 Hour Peak at Midday
21 August 2014
This morning tailbacks of vehicles queuing to enter Spain through the frontier reached a peak of 5 hours. The queue began to form at around 8am, with tailbacks reaching Devil’s Tower Road by 8:30 am, resulting in the introduction of the third lane.
Frustrated commuters hovered around their vehicles as Guardia Civil officers checked every vehicle passing through the frontier into Spain. By 12pm, the estimated waiting time for those in the queue was 5 hours. At approximately 12:30 the Borders and Coastguards Agency reported that estimated queuing time had dropped to an hour and a half.
Today’s queues follow extensive tailbacks late into last night, with traffic reaching Both Worlds.
