Feb 27 - 10 Signal Regiment Thoroughly Enjoying Duties on the Rock
On the rock for six weeks, taking over the Gibraltar Regiment’s security duties as they carry out their annual exercise in the UK, 113 soldiers of the 10 Signal Regiment are relishing working, as the weather heavily improves. The fleet is a diverse one, made up of specialists from a host of troops around the UK and Northern Ireland.
Officer Commanding for the operation Major Arron Brown describes the group as some of the most respected soldiers, especially picked for their potential. He insisted that the opportunity to carry out the Gibraltar Regiment’s duties on the Rock and participate in unique adventure training allows the soldiers to develop themselves and move towards rewarding promotions.
During their time here, Major Brown tells the press, they are also carrying out a number of community activities to give back to the people of Gibraltar who have been so welcoming to them in their short time here, thus far. These include the restoration of a gun at O’Haras Battery and working with Clubhouse Gibraltar.
Major Brown insisted that his troops had expressed a surprising level of enthusiasm for their community activities, most of them thoroughly enjoying their time on the Rock. He added that he would be doing his best to immerse them in Gibraltar’s culture and history whilst they were here.
The rock presents thoroughly unique training exercises to the regiment who have already carried out tunnel runs inside the Rock, dawn attacks at Buffadero Training Camp and adventure training involving dinghies at Gun Wharf Key. In order to split their time and efforts evenly, the troop of soldiers is divided into groups who rotate between carrying out general security measures for the Gibraltar Regiment, participating in adventure training and helping out the community.
