May 29 – Gibraltar issues first ever £10 stamp to commemorate HM Queen Elizabeth II

Her Majesty’s Government of Gibraltar and the Gibraltar Philatelic Bureau are issuing Gibraltar’s first ever £10 stamp for the first time in Gibraltar’s philatelic history to commemorate the fact Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is Britain’s longest reigning monarch as from 2015.

This is arguably the most significant Gibraltar stamp issued during the reign of HM Queen Elizabeth II. It has been exquisitely printed with 22 ct. gold. Significantly, it features a photograph by world famous royal photographer Cecil Beaton licensed for the stamps from the archives of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. The stamp is elegant, proud and bears the words ‘Queen of Gibraltar' for the first time ever on a Gibraltar stamp.

Local designer Stephen Perera was commissioned to design the stamp – a great honour for someone who has been designing stamps for Gibraltar for the past 21 years.

Collectors worldwide will note this is the highest value Gibraltar stamp in history and thus it is a must in every Gibraltar collection. The first time a £5 Gibraltar stamp was issued was during the reign of King George V in 1925 and collectors who have a copy of it in their possession will be happy to learn that it now has an official catalogues valuation of £1,650.

A very limited edition special folder has been issued which has an embossed outer sleeve and includes a four-stamp sheetlet only sold within the folder - not separately. The Special Folder is being sold at the face value of the sheet of 4 stamps.

The stamps are now available for purchase from the Philatelic Shop outside the Main Post Office or online on www.gibraltar-stamps.com/queen90
