Sep 04 - Disco And Soul Legends Sister Sledge Rock Gibraltar

70s disco sensation Sister Sledge performed their greatest hits at the Sunborn on Saturday night, with hundreds of people singing along to the much-loved tunes such as “He’s the Greatest Dancer”, “Lost in Music” and “We are Family”.

Sisters Debbie And Joni Sledge took to the stage together with Harriet Weels from 80s band Mai Tai, and were supported by the Jackie Brown Band.

Speaking to Your Gibraltar TV after the performance organised by La Sala, the sisters could not believe they performed to such a large crowd on a ship.

Debbie said: “We had so much fun and we were amazed by the energy of the crowd.

“This is such a lively and happy crowd, this is the kind of crowd we love to perform to.”

The siblings became global superstars at the height of the late-70s disco era, said they thoroughly enjoyed their first ever concert in Gibraltar after a relaxing week in Marbella and they can't wait to come back.

Joni added: “The energy is so spontaneous. It really feels like love, we feed off our audiences.

“They were genuinely happy and we feel like friends. They really made us feel welcome.”

Debbie and Joni have been on a European tour and after the Gibraltar performance, they were to fly out to London and continue touring until the end of October.

Formed in 1971 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Sister Sledge originally composed of sisters Debbie, Joni, Kathy and Kim Sledge. Symbolising strong family values, the siblings became global superstars at the height of the disco era.
