A number of RGP officers have been awarded the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training, following the successful completion of a 14-week course at the University of Gibraltar.
Inspector Garratt, Police Sergeants Anderson, Davidson, Figueras, Looseley and Trinidad, and Police Constables Bentley, Bourke, Celecia, Cowles, Danino, Farnden, Joaquin, and Rodriguez, were each presented with their certificates at a ceremony held at the University of Gibraltar yesterday afternoon. Two officers from HM Customs Gibraltar also completed the course alongside their RGP counterparts.

The 14-week course ran parallel to out officers' work schedules, and designed to give students the core knowledge & skills needed to become an effective and successful tutor/trainer, developing understanding of the various roles and responsibilities of a tutor, including:
- Effectively assessing and meeting learners’ needs
- Creating and implementing teaching plans
- Using a range of teaching tools and techniques to ensure learning objectives are met
- Assessing learners’ progress & providing feedback
- Using different teaching methods to ensure positive outcomes for learners.
The officers are already formally qualified as instructors in a range of policing disciplines, including Public Order, General Policing, Personal & Public Safety and Firearms Training, and perform these roles in addition to their primary policing duties.
Completing this teaching qualification is one of several mandatory requirements for all RGP officers who teach specialist subjects which the RGP holds a College of Policing training licence for.
In order to obtain their teaching accreditation, officers were subject to 2 formal observations of their tutoring, one written assessment and a 2000-word essay.
